About this event
Molly Corbett - BFA Rhode Island School of Design
The bird series was started in 1989 after a trip to Africa. Feeling the urge to paint after such a mind expanding experience, Corbett settled upon painting the birds because of their exotic colors, and unique beauty.
After taking a hiatus from painting birds, she decided to re-explore the subject through the mono-printing process.
The mono-type, or mono-print process is created with a hand-turned printing press. One paints on a plexiglass plate with printer's ink and runs it through a press with paper. Each print is an original one of a kind piece, since all the ink is transferred to the paper after going through the press.
Every day Corbett feeds the song birds on the deck of her studio. She notices the change of seasons as the geese fly in formation to and fro along their migratory route, honking the entire way. A pair of ravens come daily to visit, begging for treats, using many different voices. A peacock appeared at the house a couple of years ago and is now part of the family. Ruby throated humming birds, never shy, buzz around her hear when their feeder is empty. Many birds, endless inspiration.
