About this event
Linda Rowland began drawing as soon as she could hold a crayon. Her talent was obvious from an early age, and she went on to get her degree from UC Berkeley in Fine Arts and Education. Throughout her life, whatever else she was doing – working, raising her daughter, teaching, traveling – she was always drawing or painting. She has worked in pen-and-ink, watercolor, acrylic, and oil.
Rowland’s commercial work includes wedding announcements, birth announcements (including one for Robin Williams), wine and food labels, posters, and an assortment of other advertising. If you are a local, you may be familiar with her art after seeing it on the menu board at Hurley’s or the Napa Valley Coffee Roasting Company. Rowland also created the iconic character of Maybel, the beloved mascot of the Napa Valley Follies.
When traveling, Rowland loves nothing more than sitting in a café in Paris or Sydney, sketching the people around her as well as the locale. These charming scenes are her travel journals – visual rather than written.
Rowland lives in Yountville with her husband, Gerald Rowland, and a cat named Popcorn.
