A. Cort Sinnes presents Botanica Noir

I painted the pictures displayed here over the past few years, largely the result of spending so much time at home during Covid. With more time came more experimentation, ultimately resulting in finding gouache (basically opaque watercolors), and its forgiving nature when it comes to mistakes. After years of painting exclusively in transparent watercolors, it was a much appreciated discovery. Along the way, I also discovered the drama that black backgrounds add and have continued in the vein ever since, applying it to paintings of garden flowers, bouquets, fruits and vegetables and even the occasional chicken.

"He pintado los cuadros que se muestran aquí durante los últimos años, en gran parte como resultado de pasar mucho tiempo en casa durante Covid. Al pasar más tiempo, experimenté más, y al final descubrí el gouache (básicamente acuarelas opacas) y su naturaleza indulgente cuando se trata de cometer errores. Después de años pintando exclusivamente con acuarelas transparentes, fue un descubrimiento muy apreciado. Por el camino, también descubrí el dramatismo que añaden los fondos negros, y desde entonces he seguido aplicándolo a cuadros de flores de jardín, ramos de flores, frutas y verduras, e incluso alguna gallina."
