On Thursday, September 19th, the St. Helena Public Library held its Second Annual Homemade Salsa Contest. Pictured above are the salsa-making winners: Susanna Partida (left) for Green/Avocado; Rosa Manzo for Red, Very Hot, and Judges’ Choice (her Red salsa); Susanne Salvestrin for People’s Choice (a Fruit salsa); and Brett Barney for Fruit. All the winners received prizes, with Rosa, this year’s Salsa Queen, taking three! The recipes have been posted on the library’s Facebook page and website. The library wishes to thank all the judges: members of Amistad y Apoyo de la Casa de Rianda, employees of Sunshine Foods, and others, all arranged by Revelee Hemken. Ofelia and Seve DeLoera, owners of a catering company called Cocina Severiano–Cooks for Hire, amused the crowd with a salsa demonstration while the votes were being counted.
Many thanks to Villa Corona for donating their house-made tortilla chips and to all those who entered the salsa contest!
