Board of Trustees of the St. Helena Public Library

 

Minutes of the Meeting of June 13, 2007

 

Dr. Darter called the regular meeting of the Board of Trustees to order at 5 p.m. Trustee Chairman Dr. Darter, Gwen Becker, Lynda Burton were present. Library Director, Larry Hlavsa, was also present. Future Friends President, Miriam Hess and City Manager, Bert Johansson, attended the meeting.

 

A motion to approve the consent and information items was seconded and approved.

 

Library Director's Report:

 

Library Director Resignation.

The resignation of Larry Hlavsa was accepted with much regret. Larry said he had no dissatisfaction at all with his position. Larry called his job in St. Helena "the best job I ever had." He said family considerations have led him to the decision to relocate to Minnesota. His resignation will take effect on July 20, 2007. A discussion was held regarding recruitment for and interim coverage of the position. Dr. Darter volunteered to update the recruitment flyer with Larry and Bert’s assistance. All present agreed that the cost of living in our area presented a possible obstacle in recruitment. Larry and Bert will meet regarding specific Websites onto which the position will be placed.

 

Resolution 2007-02 Approving Amended Collection Policy for the Napa Valley Wine Library Collection.  An amended version of the 2003 collection policy was presented, moved, seconded and approved. It adds a section on archival materials and clarifies the relationship of the NVWLA and the Library. The amended policy was previously shared with the NVWLA board which voiced no concerns about the changes.

 

Library sign. The Public Works Department has offered to replace and pay for replacement lettering on the sign by the fountain. It has missing and crooked letters.

 

Foundation Subcommittee Report. Robyn Orsini, Friends Board member, has joined the subcommittee. They continue their work and hope to have a foundation formed by the end of the calendar year.

 

Friends of the Library. No report due to the absence of Dolores Torrigino..

 

Wine Library Report: No report due to the absence of Julie Dickson.

 

St. Helena Historical Society (Gwen Becker). The Historical Society board continues to work on the future History Center. Gwen reported that she has resigned from the board and taken on the Oral History project, “Voice of St. Helena”. There will be no events during the summer months of July and August. The November 3rd cemetery tour will be “Crimes and Misdemeanors”.
