Minutes of the Meeting of July 13, 2005
The regular meeting of the Board of Trustees was called to order by Dr. Darter at 5 p.m. Trustee Chairman Dr. Darter, Gwen Becker, Lynda Burton, and Julie Dickson were present. Former Friends of the Library President Tom Burke and incoming president Dolores Torrigino were present, as was Library Director Larry Hlavsa.
A motion to approve the consent items was seconded and passed, with the correction that the volunteer hours in the May 2005 report should be 110 not 182. Minutes of the meeting of June 8th were approved as mailed.
Library Director’s Report
Development of Adams Street Property. A lengthy discussion addressed the six proposals from developers currently under consideration by the City Council, trustees noting that none of them gives the library’s needs the attention and respect specified in the RFP. Staff has indicated to Larry that “specific” comments should be offered. Concepts and language were proposed; trustees will submit drafts to Larry ASAP for his collation, editing, and submission to staff and council.
Other business. The summer reading program is off to a good start and performance reviews are on schedule.
Friends of the Library. Tom and Dolores reported that the speaker at the annual meeting and election of officers July 24 will be Elaine Montgomery, describing her discovery of Civil War relics.
Wine Library Association. Julie commented on the association’s and community’s loss in the death of Reg Oliver. She reminded trustees to look for their invitations to the 43rd annual tasting for members at Silverado on Sunday, August 14th.
St. Helena Historical Society. Gwen and Larry are participating in the strategic planning sessions on July 8th and 15th.
The meeting adjourned at 6:10 p.m.
